Task analysis of using a rope launcher

To design an ergonomic and easy to use line launcher that incorporates a motorized line retrieval system.

Ideation

I explored different forms with thumbnail sketches in order to fix the ergonomic issues found with the current launchers.

I also researched electronic fishing reels, as their motors and operation would be the powered portion of my design.

Ideations were cut from 15lb pink foam for form and ergonomic evaluation.

Pain Points

The current rope throw bags have a limited range and have to be carefully repacked each time.

Water rescue personnel respond to emergencies like drownings and boating accidents, using lifesaving techniques, CPR, and specialized equipment to ensure safety. They patrol aquatic areas, and coordinate with emergency services to execute swift and effective rescues.

Design Goal:

I surface modeled the designs from the pink foam iterations and began work on the internals.
